3MF to STL: what is kept and what is lost

A 3MF file can hold several objects, colours and real units. STL can hold none of that: objects are merged into one mesh and the numbers are kept as-is (normally millimetres).

The triangles themselves are carried over exactly — nothing is re-meshed, simplified or smoothed. Need a CAD file rather than another mesh? Our mesh to STEP tool rebuilds real, editable surfaces instead of translating facets.

3MF is the modern 3D-printing format: a zipped package that carries units, colour and several objects in one file. Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, Cura and Windows all read it natively.
What is STL?
STL stores a surface as plain triangles — no units, no colour, no curves. It is the default format for 3D printing and what most scanners, slicers and sculpting tools export.

Questions about 3MF to STL

Is 3MF to STL conversion free?

Yes — all mesh-to-mesh conversions are free and unlimited for normal use (fair-use limit: 60 conversions per hour), with no account and no watermark.

Does converting change my model?

No. The vertices and triangles are written out unchanged; only the container format differs. Anything the target format cannot store (see above) is left out.

What's the largest 3MF I can convert?

Can I convert a mesh into a CAD file?
