OBJ materials, UVs and groups have no equivalent in STL and are dropped; all groups are merged into one mesh.

OBJ is a simple text-based mesh format from Wavefront, used across sculpting, game and scanning tools. It can reference materials and UV coordinates alongside the geometry.
What is STL?
STL stores a surface as plain triangles — no units, no colour, no curves. It is the default format for 3D printing and what most scanners, slicers and sculpting tools export.

Is OBJ to STL conversion free?

Does converting change my model?

No. The vertices and triangles are written out unchanged; only the container format differs. Anything the target format cannot store (see above) is left out.
